Sony VAIO CR4000 CTO Series Notebook with Penryn Available for Purchase

This Sony VAIO VGN-CR4000 CTO Series Notebook is new colorful 14.1" series notebook that comes with one of Penryn processors (T8100 (2.1GHz), T8300 (2.4GHz), T9300 (2.5GHz), T9500 (2.6GHz)). The cheapest processor (for basic configuration) offered for these laptops are only Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T7250. Other Penryn processors will add to default + $20, + $70, +$220 and +$520 respectively.

The basic price starts from $1179.99 and you can get your laptop in one of the six colors such as Cosmopolitan soft pink, Sangria red, Indigo, dove-grey (silver and ivory blend), Champagne gold and etc.

Kesulitan dengan Notebook Acer

Pagi ini saya sedang mengutak-atik notebook kami yang baru. Notebook ini adalah Acer Aspire 5583N WXNi. Masalah yang saya hadapi adalah tidak adanya driver Windows XP untuk ethernet card dan wirelessnya. Notebook ini tidak datang dengan Windows terpasang. Jadi OS harus dipasang sendiri. Tidak ada bawaan drivernya.

Saya cek di Internet, ternyata tidak banyak halaman yang berbicara tentang produk ini. Aneh juga. Apakah produk ini hanya spesifik dijual di Indonesia? Atau Asia? Hasil penelusuran Google menunjukkan halamannya Andika, tentang driver untuk notebook ini di GNU/Linux Debian. (Ha! Ternyata lebih mudah memasang Linux di notebook ini?)

Saya coba cek ke dukungan Acer di Indonesia. Halaman “acerindonesia.com” menghasilkan “404 Not Found“. Halah. Apakah mereka tidak memeriksa web support mereka ya? Aneh juga.

Kembali ke halamannya Andika, saya menemukan bahwa ethernetnya menggunakan “Marvell 88E8038 PCI-E Fast Ethernet”. Dicari dengan Google, menemukan driver untuk itu. Tapi saya juga menemukan link di Acer Eropa. Saya download disana, pasang, dan jalan. Ethernet card sekarang sudah berjalan di notebook ini.

Langkah selanjutnya adalah mencari driver untuk wirelessnya. Dari webnya Andika lagi, saya menemukan bahwa drivernya adalah “Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG”. Langsung cari di Internet, menemukan halaman dari Intel. Download driver itu, pasang, dan jalan.

Hah! Repot juga. Semestinya hal ini ada semua di webnya Acer Indonesia ya? Sayang juga tidak ada. Untungnya saya punya akses Internet yang cukup lumayan sehingga bisa download driver-driver itu. Selain itu saya juga beruntung cepat mendapatkan driver yang dibutuhkan. Kebayang oleh saya orang yang akses internetnya menggunakan dial-up. Wah, keburu kesal dulu
