notebook AXIOO

ebenarnya sih gak baru-baru amat. Karena sudah hampir 2 bulan saya menggunakan notebook ini. Sejauh ini sih baik-baik saja dan belum ada keluhan. Awal yg baik untuk sebuah barang yg baik, mestinya.

Merknya Axioo. Ini adalah merk lokal. Tepatnya ini adalah barang dari luar yang dilabeli dengan merk sendiri, seperti halnya Visipro, V-gen dan lainnya. Axioo punya beberapa kelas dalam jajaran produknya. Lengkapnya bisa dilihat disini.

Yang saya pakai ini adalah kelas value (Neon Series) yang murah meriah. Seri ini menggunakan chipset Via. Makanya bisa jauh lebih murah dibanding kelas lainnya yang menggunakan chipset Intel.

Kenapa memilih notebook? Kenapa tidak komputer desktop saja? Ini juga sudah saya pikirkan masak-masak. Karena dengan dana yang sama bisa mendapatkan spesifikasi yang jauh lebih tinggi jika menggunakan desktop dibanding notebook. Tetapi akan berbeda jauh jika dibandingkan sisi mobilitasnya dan konsumsi daya listriknya.

Ya masing-masing antara komputer desktop dan notebook punya kelebihan dan kelemahan masing-masing. Dan saya memutuskan untuk memakai notebook karena saya berencana akan menggunakannya di rumah (di kamar, di ruang tamu atau di tempat lain) kalau ada waktu luang. Kadang-kadang untuk menulis, membaca email, atau sekadar ngoprek2 saja. Kadang-kadang saya juga perlu membawa notebook ke kantor. Kadang-kadang merasa perlu juga mencicipi Wifi yang di beberapa tempat disediakan gratis. Karena itu perlu disiasati bagaimana dengan dana yang terbatas bisa mendapatkan notebook dengan spesifikasi yang lumayan.

Kenapa Axioo? Sebenarnya saya tidak fanatik merk. Tetapi lebih kepada harga, service dan layanan purna jual. Lalu darimana saya tahu semua itu, ya internet jawabnya. Saya punya kebiasaan untuk mencari info di internet sebelum membeli sesuatu. Saya perlu tahu pengalaman pengguna Axioo (dan merk lokal lainnya) dan bagaimana kesan-kesan pemakain Axioo. Setelah ‘googling’ dengan kata kunci ‘axioo’ akan banyak rujukan-rujukan yang bisa dibaca. Ada beberapa testimoni blogger yang memakai Axioo. Ada juga posting di forum yang membahas Axioo dan perbandingan dengan beberapa merk lain.

Di salah satu edisi majalah Infolinux, ada artikel dari Onno W. Purba, seorang pakar, yang menulis tentang bagaimana meng-instal Linux di notebook dan kebetulan merk dipakai adalah Axioo. Ini tentu saja menambah poin untuk memilih Axioo. Malah ini bisa jadi referensi yang lebih kuat, karena nantinya memang akan di-install Linux. Dari referensi di internet dan majalah yang selalu saya perhatikan adalah kompatibilitasnya dengan Linux. Dan yang lebih bagus lagi, di beberapa display di toko komputer atau di pameran beberapa tipe dari Axioo secara default dipasangi dengan Linux Mandriva yang bisa jadi referensi kompatibilitas dengan Linux.

Setelah saya rasa cukup dengan bahan pertimbangan, akhirnya saya berbulat hati memilih Axioo. Walau sebelumnya banyak juga merk-merk lokal lainnya yang sempat juga jadi bahan pertimbangan. Tetapi disamping faktor fitur dan harga, layanan purna jual dari Axioo adalah hal terpenting yg membuat pilihan jatuh ke Axioo. Di situsnya Axioo ada tabel spare part dan perkiraan harga nya jika ada kerusakan. Juga informasi dari penjual (dasar penjual :-)) yang meyakinkan akan layanan service center Axioo baik di Jakarta dan di beberapa kota besar lainnya.

Setelah merk dan layanan purna jual sudah ketemu sekarang tinggal mencocokan dengan dana yang ada. Dan ini adalah hal yang gak salah sulitnya. Awalnya saya sudah mendapatkan kandidat, tipe VL 724 C (Chipset Via, Pentium M 1,7 Ghz). Tetapi saat bertanya ke beberapa dealer barangnya sedang kosong. Ada juga yang menyebut sudah discontinue. Sementara saya tidak tertarik dengan tipe sejenis yang menggunakan Celeron M karena harganya tidak terpaut jauh.

Ke Mangga Dua adalah yang terbaik. Sebagai salah satu pusat komputer di Jakarta tentu akan mudah mencari barang yang kita perlukan. Dan kebetulan juga saat saya ke sana Axioo sedang pameran. Tanpa menyia-nyiakan waktu langsung saja proses hunting dimulai. Memang betul tipe yang saya cari (VL 724 C) sudah discontinue dan sebagai gantinya adalah tipe VL 856 P. Spek kurang lebih sama dengan yang saya cari, tetapi menggunakan Pentium M 1,8 Ghz dan RAM 512 MB. Spek lengkapnya bisa dilihat disini.

Seperti biasa walau sudah dilabeli dengan harga khusus pameran, saya masih sempat-sempatnya menawar harga. Siapa tahu bisa mendapatkan harga yang lebih bagus lagi. Si penjaga stand tetap saja bertahan bahwa harganya ini sudah harga khusus pameran dan di tempat lain harga lebih mahal. Setelah tidak putus asa menawar akhirnya saya mendapatkan harga lebih murah Rp 50 ribu dibanding harga pameran yang tercantum. Lumayan juga.

Harga ini adalah harga notebook tetapi tidak termasuk harga OS, karena notebook ini secara default di-bundle dengan Mandriva 2006 yang memang gratis. Bagus juga. Kenapa juga harus membayar cukup mahal dengan Windows secara otomatis di dalamnya. Karena memang notebook ini rencananya saya akan gunakan untuk mencicipi Ubuntu yang semakin populer itu.

Sudah dua bulan Notebook ini saya gunakan. Dan setelah memakai notebook ini banyak tawaran-tawaran notebook merk lain dengan harga dan fitur yang hampir sama. Ya sekarang sepertinya sudah mulai menjadi tren notebook yang murah tetapi powerful

TIP MEMILIH NOTEBOOK/LAPTOP

Akhir-akhir ini perkembangan penjualan notebook/laptop mengalami peningkatan yang sangat mencolok dan nyaris menyamai penjualan personal computer (PC). Laptop sudah tidak lagi sekedar menjadi kebutuhan kerja tetapi sudah hampir menjadi gaya hidup seperti halnya hand phone. Dulu, saya sempat bingung ketika sebagian orang menyebut laptop dan sebagian lagi menyebut notebook, lalu saya bertanya apakah ada bedanya. Ternyata, perbedaannya adalah dari segi etimologi bahasa, pada mulanya ‘lap’ yang berarti pangkuan dan ‘top’ yang berarti atas merupakan nama umum dari komputer yang bisa ditaruh dipangkuan, lalu karena sebagian besar pengguna laptop tidak selalu memangku laptop tetapi ditaruh di meja (karena kalau dipangku panas), maka kata laptop menjadi tidak relevan lagi dan muncullah ‘notebook’ yang diibaratkan komputer kecil yang bisa dilipat-lipat.

Beberapa hal yang perlu dijadikan pertimbangan saat kita ingin membeli notebook/laptop :

Fungsi
Yang paling diuntungkan oleh mobilitas laptop adalah seorang penulis, mahasiswa yang sedang skripsi, administrasi, programer dan berbagai jenis pekerjaan yang berbau ‘mengetik’. Jadi, jika anda seorang gamer rasanya kurang begitu bijak untuk membeli laptop karena dengan harga laptop middle end anda sudah bisa mempunyai spesifikasi PC yang tinggi. Kira-kira budget yang dibutuhkan sekitar 4-6 juta, tidak perlu sampai 21 juta jika hanya untuk mengetik dan presentasi dalam sidang.

Garansi dan Operating System
Untuk garansi, pastikan toko tersebut sudah terjamin dalam pelayanan masalah garansi, beberapa penjual memang agak ‘resek’ tentang masalah garansi ini. Atau beli merek yang ada garansi internasional dan lokalnya. Jika ingin OS yang benar-benar asli, biasanya ada serial numbernya di body notebook. Tapi kita kan di Indonesia, tidak perlu repot-repot masalah OS original.

Hardware
Komponen yang paling mempengaruhi harga notebook adalah monitor dan processornya, komponen lain seperti memory, hardisk, kartu grafis, optical drive, wifi, dll biasanya akan mengikuti. Semakin tinggi processor maka komponen lainnya juga semakin lengkap dan bagus, walaupun akan banyak improvisasi dari masing-masing vendor, tapi tidak akan berbeda terlalu jauh. Untuk hal ini, anda sedikit butuh kerja karena anda harus membandingkan harga antara satu toko dengan yang lain untuk spesifikasi yang mirip.

Bila anda sungguh-sungguh ingin membeli laptop dengan harga yang cukup murah, usahakan untuk membeli waktu pameran (harga agak miring sedikit, tapi tetap usahakan dari toko yang sudah anda kenal baik pelayanannya)

Kehidupan yang terus berkembang menuntut kepraktisan yang tiada tara. Segala sesuatu ingin dibuat cepat, kalau perlu tanpa penghalang sama sekali. Tuntutan kepraktisan hidup ini pula yang kemudian melahirkan teknologi yang memberikan banyak kemudahan kepada para penggunanya.

Sebut salah satunya perangkat notebook. Orang tidak perlu lagi terpenjara di kantor untuk bekerja. Di manapun dan dari manapun dengan notebook di tangan, pekerjaan bisa diselesaikan. Pada perkembangan awal, notebook memang masih menjadi konsumsi para pria, meski tidak ada data yang menunjukkan bahwa notebook 'hanya' milik pria. BenQ sebagai salah satu merk yang mengeluarkan produk notebook tergolong berani berinovasi. Salah satu notebook-nya yang berseri S53 di-desain berbeda dibanding notebook sejenis. SEX Diary of Bill Gates

Bill Gates is a racist, sexist, sex-obsessed, megalomaniacal egotist who thinks he's a hell of a lot smarter than he really is.

That is the premise of "The Secret Diary of Bill Gates," a 272-page parody of Microsoft's maximum leader, based on the long-running Web site by the same name. It's unfortunate that the author -- anonymously named "Bill G." (quotes included) -- couldn't have just said that in the first page and saved the readers the other 271 pages of puerile humor, pointless effusions and vindictive jabs that make up the rest of this book.

"The Secret Diary of Bill Gates" may be, as our narrator "Bill G." claims in the intro, an "awesome Web site -- the #1 most popular site on the Net about you-know-who!" But, as others have learned before, a well-trafficked Web site does not a good book make.

The "Secret Diary" is a set of 365 brief diary entries (one for each day of 1997) which detail the purported daily thoughts and correspondences of Bill Gates. The majority of these entries consist of "ruminations" about the industry and Microsoft's superiority to its rivals, a detailed accounting of Gates' rising wealth, e-mails to adoring young fans who admire his haircut and sex appeal, countless top-10 lists and odes to his beloved Melinda.

There could be room here for a subtle parody of the thoughts of the richest man in the world as he takes Microsoft into industry monopolization. However, there's absolutely nothing subtle about "The Secret Diary." "Bill G." portrays his alter ego as a dork with the intellect of a 12-year-old, complete with repetitive interdictions like "Cool!!!!!" "Yeeeeaaahhh!" and "Rock 'n' Roll!" and an exclamation point on the end of most lines. The reader gets jabs at Gates' sex life -- "Melinda says my fitness regime is already paying dividends. Apparently, last night, my stamina was awesome!" -- and, just to make sure we know that Gates isn't intelligent, pointed comments along the lines of "I AM a visionary!" and "I'm so smart!"

A sample of some low points (along with their original punctuation):

• a fictional correspondence with Spice Girl Mel B (a sample e-mail: "You're my favorite! You're the best-looking, most talented Spice Girl. You should go solo! Wow! This is SO cool! ... Wanna talk about the Internet with ME?!!!!!!!!!")
• His Top 10 Phrases (included: "Way coooool!" "Into orbit!" and "Boy, I'm a smart guy!")
• His thoughts on Kim Polese ("You're a chick! Chicks can't do software companies!")
• His interpretation of wealth ("I can finally buy the little Hawaiian island of Lanai ... I could build my very own theme park ... Billywood!")

Not surprisingly, this kind of gibberish can only fill up so many pages (or diary entries, as the case may be). To fill the rest, the "Secret Diaries" has rehashed a lot of the silliness that's been circulating on the Web for years: the old "Top 10 Reasons a PC is Male" joke, the fart-that-is-a-fax tale and the "Top 10 Rejection Lines from Women" all get reworked as correspondences in Bill's life. There are even quotes from "Dilbert" cartoons.

But while the author may have found these kinds of jokes funny when he ran across them online, they show the main fallacy of "The Secret Diaries": They have no place in print.

The Web has proven itself to be a breeding ground for bite-sized, banal humor: scatological jokes, "men vs. women" comparisons, Top 10 lists and one-joke-wonder Web sites. Certainly this kind of comedy has its own devotees, and in fact the fleeting nature of the Web has made it a good home for this dubious cotton-candy art form.

Books, though, demand a bit more substance. But "The Secret Diary" too often reads like Webby filler -- juvenile one-paragraph jabs that might be worth a brief chuckle if you ran across them during your daily surfing, but not worthy of a 272-page tome.

The only mildly interesting aspect of "The Secret Diary" is the record of the ups and downs of 1997's technology news that it inadvertently provides: from Steve Jobs wavering on the Apple CEO job to Larry Ellison's sexual-harassment lawsuit. (There are also a few gems in the tech exec quotes sprinkled throughout the text, such as Steve Jobs' comment after taking Microsoft's $150 million: "Bill, thank you. The world's a better place.") But even these were probably more engaging when the events actually happened -- say, the day the diary entries originally went up -- and the fake Gates commentary doesn't add much.

Parodying Bill Gates is the journalistic equivalent of shooting a large fish in a very small barrel: It's easy to dislike the guy, simply because of the magnitude of his success -- but it takes a lot of bitterness to make fun of Gates' inadequacies for the duration of a whole book.

And, in fact, the ludicrous Bill G. portrayed in "The Secret Diary" is so distant from the real Gates that the book shouldn't even call itself a parody. There's satire, and then there are just plain old sex jokes. Too bad the paper was wasted on the latter.

penggunaan notebook untuk wifi/hotspot

Menggunakan notebook dengan fasilitas Wi-fi memang sangat praktis, karena bisa mengurangi ruwetnya kabel yang harus kita gunakan :D. Konektivitas peer-to-peer ini biasa Penulis gunakan untuk bermain game dengan rekan2, dan hasilnya sangat memuaskan. Selain tidak perlu berpusing ria dengan kabel, kami juga bisa mobile dengan jarak yang relatif jauh dengan konektivitas yang masih stabil dan kuenceng.

Well, langsung saja kita coba untuk menghubungkan notebook kita. Langkah ini penulis tempuh dengan OS Windows XP Prof SP 2 dengan notebook Acer 3252 dan notebook temen HP Pavilion. Secara umum penulis lihat tidak ada perbedaan yang mencolk jika kita menggunakan notebook jenis lainnya.

Oke, mari dimula aja.

1. Masuk ke Start –> Control Panel –> Network and Internet Connections–> Network Connection, kemudian klik kanan pada Wireless Network Connection kita pilih properties.
2. Masuk ke tab wireless networks, lalu pada dialog box preferred networks klik add
3. Masuk ke association tab lalu ketik nama SSID dari wireless anda, misal “KING”
4. Bagian yang penting, pastikan anda check list box pada bagian this is computer-to-computer (ad hoc) network dan uncheck list box this key provided for me automatically
5. Pada bagian Network Authentication pilih Open, dan pada bagian Data encryption pilih mode WEP, namun bila anda merasa tidak perlu tinggal pilih disabled
6. Jika anda menggunakan encryption WEP, maka anda harus mengisi box network key (5/13 karakter), lalu ketik ulang key anda pada box confirm network key
7. Klik OK

Terakhir, tinggal search dengan notebook temen kita SSID yang baru saja kita buat. Nah silahkan dikonek-kan dan kita tinggal menunggku sebentar, beres dech. Mudah khan?

Fingerprint biometrics is a convenient and secure way to protect your computer and the information on it with a simple swipe of your finger. It also stores passwords to websites you visit, so authentication and access are quick and easy, you only need your fingerprint. An integrated Trusted Platform Module (TPM) TCG Ver.1.2 compliant chip enhances security by allowing you to control access on a specific client/user basis. TPM is a hardware-based solution that secures and protects data when it is most vulnerable.
